Hit the Ground Running

October 24th, 2011 apcook15

Hey there everybody!

So as hard as it is to believe, I’m already halfway into the first semester at Holy Cross, and so far it’s been a non-stop, lightning-fast, altogether unforgettable experience.

Even with four classes of chemistry, calculus, and the like, the most important thing I’ve learned so far is that there really is no place like home, but life on a college campus comes in a quick second. You gain new levels of freedom the minute you unpack your bags, and it’s one of my favorite things about college so far. You decide when to wake up, when to eat, when to go to sleep, whether or not to hang with friends or do the 5-pg essay due Monday (with the former most likely taking a back seat to the latter).

Holy Cross has lived up to and exceeded all my expectations for it – which in my case would have seemed an almost impossible task. Having several family members and teachers come here, Holy Cross has been hyped up my entire life, and I’m thrilled beyond words to be a part of it all now.

I can’t say enough about joining a team. With the amount of work I do here – and believe me, it is everything others have warned me about – having a release to look forward to every day has been an enormous stress reliever. Even though I did it all through high school, running with the Cross-country team here is everything I was looking for in a college sport. Crazy as it sounds, I think I’ve even psyched myself into doing the Marathon in the spring (here’s hoping I see that one through).

I’ll keep you all updated on life as soon as I get two minutes of rest to do so.

Until then, farewell all!
